Adoption Process
True North GSD Rescue uses a formal application process for adopting, fostering and surrendering dogs. Please fully complete the application with as much detail as you can provide. Failure to provide us with all the requested information will delay your application being processed.
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer organization and will be sure to check all references and information provided in the application. We may also request additional information from you. It may take a few weeks to complete this process. Once your application is fully processed and approved, a volunteer will contact you to move to the next step, choosing the best GSD for you!
Please note, your application must be fully approved to meet and to foster or adopt a rescued German Shepherd Dog with True North GSD Rescue.
All of our rescue dogs are temperamentally assessed based on our placement criteria. Only dogs that meet this criteria are accepted into True North GSD Rescue. Additionally, they will be microchipped, have the required vaccinations, and if they are 2 years or older, they may undergo spay or neuter surgery, ovary-sparing spay, or vasectomy before being permanently placed.
We believe in transparency. Any known medical or physical challenges will be clearly noted and discussed with potential adopters to ensure the best match for both the dog and their future family. All will be completed prior to placing the dogs into their permanent homes to ensure the best fit for you and our rescue dogs.
Are you interested in only fostering a dog? Please apply online and we will contact you to begin the foster approval process.
All of the donations are used to rescue and care for the GSD’s we place. The rescue covers it all: food, medical care, supplies, gear, and of course—plenty of toys. You provide the love, structure and the positive environment they need to thrive while waiting for their forever families. Donations are tax-deductible as we are an IRS designated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Please email us if you have additional questions. A volunteer will contact you to answer all of your questions.
If you are applying for a specific dog, please include this in your application. Puppies: We receive an amazing amount of applications for puppies. Please be patient. We will contact the application that are the best potential fit for our pups.
All of the information about each pup is listed under “Available Dogs.” Once your application is approved, we will contact you, review our pups and schedule a “meet and greet” with the pup to ensure this will be a good fit for both you and our rescue dogs. None of our pups go to their new home on the day of the “meet and greet”.
If you have additional questions, please email us!
